Daenerys Targaryen is the Mother of Dragons in the Game of Thrones series. Therefore, I started building a Game of Thrones Mother of Dragons Moc out of Lego bricks, a tribute to the masterpiece of the original.
It was the year 299 when Daenerys arrived to Astapor, the infamous city of Slaver’s Bay. Astapor is the place where people could buy armies of Unsullied, castrated male warriors who said to be the best ones of the entire continent. So of course, Daenerys ended up buying 8,600 of them to join her forces.
The Mother of Dragons released her newly bought slaves afterwards and sacked the city of Astapor, killing the slave masters in the process. Of course, all of this happened in A Game of Thrones, a fictional book series turned into a TV Show.
Formerly known as ‘Mogador’, the city’s modern Arabic name ‘Essaouira’ (الصويرة) translates to ‘the little rampart’, a reference to the town’s fortress walls. The Scala is the main fortification on the port of Essaouira, designed by the French architect Théodore Cornut.
I designed the “Scala” with young Drogon out of Lego bricks after studying its appearances in the thrid season. The diorama includes 2,145 lego bricks, hundreds of them used as floor tiles as seen in the model below.
The diorama is my first built this year, after the Game of Thrones Iron Throne Room last year. The Moc is certainly one of the largest creation that I have worked on to date. Therefore, I had a lot of fun experimenting with various techniques to recreate the atmosphere, including young dragon Drogon.
I think that it turned out well.
The diorama also features the Unsullied (Astapori Valyrian: Dovoghedhi) also known as elite warrior-eunuchs bred and trained in Astapor, one of the three major cities of Slaver’s Bay. They are slave-soldiers famed for their skills and discipline in battle.
I hope that you enjoy. Dracarys!
